Incorporation
and Listing
The Cross-Harbour (Holdings) Limited (the "Company") was incorporated on 26 April 1965 under the name of "The Cross-Harbour Tunnel Company, Limited" with the franchise to build and operate the Cross-Harbour Tunnel at Hunghom up to 1999. Subsequently, an associated company of the Company had provided management services to the Cross-Harbour Tunnel until 2010. The Company was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 30 July 1974.
The Company held a 37% stake in 1993 and further acquired 13% stake in 2008 in Western Harbour Tunnel Company Limited, which held the franchise to build and operate the Western Harbour Crossing. The Company also acquired a 39.5% stake in Tate’s Cairn Tunnel Company Limited in 2008, which held the franchise to build and operate the Tate’s Cairn Tunnel. The franchises expired on 1 August 2023 and 11 July 2018, respectively.
Investments
Currently, the investment of the Company includes:
(1) a 70% effective interest in The Hong Kong School of Motoring Limited (operator of designated driving schools in Hong Kong);
(2) a 35% effective interest in Autotoll (BVI) Limited (operator of electronic toll collection and provider of toll collection services for HKeToll in Hong Kong) ; and
(3) a portfolio of financial assets mainly composed of unlisted fund investments and equity securities.
Change
of Company Name
The name of the Company was changed to "The Cross-Harbour (Holdings) Limited" on 17 May 2000 in order to avoid ambiguity to the investing public regarding the principal activities of the Company after expiry of the 30-year franchise for the Cross-Harbour Tunnel in 1999. The Company name was further changed to "The Cross-Harbour (Holdings) Limited 港通控股有限公司" on 7 June 2005.
